Inconel 625 Scrap Buyer, Importer and Exporter

UNS N06625, Solid-solution nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium. Also traded as Alloy 625

Quick Answer

Inconel 625 scrap is recovered Alloy 625 (UNS N06625), a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with about 9% molybdenum and 3.6% niobium. It comes mainly from offshore and chemical plant, overlay welding and machining. Mipra Steel trades 625 scrap in both directions: buying lots in India and abroad, and supplying melt shops at home and overseas.

Melt shops and wire makers sourcing 625 usually care about two things: proof of grade and a predictable form. Say which forms your furnace takes (solids, clipped sheet, briquetted or loose turnings), the tonnage per month or per shipment, and the port you receive at. We describe every lot by grade and UNS number before anything is agreed.

What Is Inconel 625 Scrap?

Inconel 625 is the alloy engineers reach for when seawater, acids and heat all show up in the same job. Its strength comes from molybdenum and niobium dissolved in the nickel-chromium matrix rather than from heat treatment, so it welds well and keeps its corrosion resistance in the weld. That is why so much of it ends up as overlay on carbon steel, as bellows and expansion joints, and as flue-gas scrubber linings.

As scrap, 625 is valued for what it carries into the next melt: roughly 62% nickel, 21.5% chromium, 9% molybdenum and 3.6% niobium, with iron held under 5%. Melt shops making 625, other nickel-chromium-molybdenum grades or high-performance welding wire can use it directly, provided the lot is single-grade. One stray piece of Inconel 718 or Hastelloy C-276 in a 625 lot changes its chemistry enough to matter, which is why buyers ask for readings before they ask for weight.

In the trade you will also see it called Alloy 625, 2.4856 or simply "625". Filler wire to ERNiCrMo-3 is 625 chemistry, so wire ends from overlay shops normally sort with it.

Inconel 625 belongs to the Inconel family, part of nickel alloy scrap.

Welding wire ERNiCrMo-3 is 625 chemistry, so filler-wire offcuts from overlay shops usually sort with 625.

Where Inconel 625 Scrap Comes From

Most 625 scrap reaches the market at a few predictable moments: when a plant is rebuilt, when a fabricator finishes a job, or when a machine shop empties its swarf bins.

Offshore and Subsea Work

Riser, flowline and topside fabrication leaves offcuts, rejected spools and surplus solid 625. Decommissioning adds weld-overlaid and clad components, which are traded separately from solid material because the 625 layer is only a fraction of the weight.

Chemical and Pollution-Control Plant

Scrubber relining, bellows replacement and exchanger rebuilds release sheet, plate trim and formed parts. See chemical processing scrap.

Overlay and Fabrication Shops

Cladding and overlay shops generate wire ends, rejected weld test pieces and plate crops. Wire ends are usually clean and easy to keep as a single grade.

Machining

Flanges, valve bodies and fittings machined from 625 bar and forgings produce turnings. Turnings are worth less than solids because of oil, moisture and the risk of tool-tip contamination.

Aerospace

Exhaust ducting, thrust-reverser and bellows work produce sheet trim and rejected formed parts, often with good traceability. See aerospace scrap.

How Inconel 625 Scrap Is Identified

A handheld XRF settles most 625 questions in seconds, because its molybdenum-niobium pairing is unusual. Before agreeing a description, a buyer usually works through these points.

CheckWhat it shows for Inconel 625
Molybdenum and niobiumAbout 9% molybdenum together with about 3.6% niobium is the signature. Either one alone points to a different grade.
IronShould read under 5%. A 625-looking reading with 15% to 20% iron is almost always Inconel 718.
TungstenShould be close to zero. Around 4% tungsten with 16% molybdenum means Hastelloy C-276.
Overlay or clad partsTest both faces. A 625 face over a magnetic carbon-steel back is overlay, not solid 625, and is described and valued as such.
DocumentsMill certificates quoting UNS N06625 or 2.4856, or heat numbers stamped on the material, let a lot be described with confidence.

Grades Most Often Confused with Inconel 625

  • Inconel 718: carries about 5% niobium too, but with roughly 18% iron and only 3% molybdenum.
  • Hastelloy C-276: has 16% molybdenum and about 4% tungsten, and little or no niobium.
  • Incoloy 825: is used in the same plants but reads around 30% iron, 42% nickel and 2% copper.

Preparing Inconel 625 Scrap for Sale

  1. Keep 625 apart from 718, C-276, 825 and stainless steel, even in small quantities.
  2. Separate solids, sheet, wire ends and turnings into their own bags or drums.
  3. Keep overlay and clad pieces in a separate, labelled lot.
  4. Drain turnings and keep them dry and free of tool tips.
  5. Photograph markings and keep any mill certificates with the lot.

Inconel 625 Scrap Price per Kg: What Decides It

There is no single 625 scrap price per kg. An offer starts from the metal the lot contains, then moves up or down with how sure the buyer can be about it and how much work it needs.

  • Contained nickel, plus the molybdenum (about 9%) and niobium (about 3.6%) that make 625 more useful to a melt shop than a plain nickel-chromium alloy.
  • Grade certainty: a lot backed by readings on every piece or by matching mill certificates is described as 625; an unsorted lot is priced for the risk it carries.
  • Form: solids and clean sheet are worth more than turnings, which carry oil, moisture and fine contamination.
  • Overlay and clad material: valued on the 625 it actually contains, so it must be declared and kept apart from solid 625.
  • Lot size, packing and location: a full container of sorted, bagged 625 from a port city costs less to handle than a mixed truckload inland.

Nickel and molybdenum prices move every trading day, so every offer carries a date. For the full method, read what decides nickel alloy scrap price per kg.

Inconel 625 Scrap Import and Export

Importing Inconel 625 Scrap into India

A large share of the 625 that reaches India starts life offshore, in Gulf fabrication yards and North Sea or Asian decommissioning work. Before a container leaves, the material goes through pre-shipment inspection, and the inspection agency issues the certificate Indian customs expects to see next to the invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Label the lot "Inconel 625, UNS N06625" on every document and attach readings, so nobody has to guess at the port. More detail: importing nickel alloy scrap into India.

Exporting Inconel 625 Scrap from India

India's overlay, cladding and valve industries produce clean, traceable 625: wire ends, crops and swarf that overseas melt shops value because the history is known. For export, each drum or bag is weighed and listed by grade, the invoice names Alloy 625 and N06625, and containers usually leave from Nhava Sheva or Mundra. Buyers in the Gulf and East Asia can work through our Dubai office or South Korea office. Paperwork is explained in alloy scrap export documents.

Inconel 625 Scrap FAQ

Is Inconel 625 scrap worth more than Inconel 600 scrap?

Usually, yes. Both are nickel-chromium alloys, but 625 also carries about 9% molybdenum and 3.6% niobium, which melt shops pay for. Inconel 600 has no molybdenum or niobium and around 8% iron. The final difference depends on the market on the day and on the condition of each lot.

How can I tell if my scrap is Inconel 625 and not 718?

Look at iron and molybdenum on an XRF reading. Inconel 625 reads under 5% iron with about 9% molybdenum. Inconel 718 reads around 18% iron with about 3% molybdenum. Both contain niobium, so niobium alone does not separate them.

Can weld-overlaid or clad 625 be sold as Inconel 625 scrap?

It can be sold, but not as solid 625. Overlay is a thin 625 layer on carbon or low-alloy steel, so it is described as clad or overlaid material and valued on the 625 it contains. Mixing it into a solid 625 lot is a common reason lots are downgraded.

Does Mipra Steel buy Inconel 625 turnings?

Yes. Mipra Steel buys and sells 625 turnings as well as solids and sheet. Turnings should be single-grade, drained of oil and kept dry. Send the weight, location and photographs, and any readings, with your enquiry.

Where is Inconel 625 scrap found in India?

Mainly around fabrication and overlay shops, refineries and chemical plants, power plant scrubber projects and machine shops serving the oil and gas sector. Large volumes also arrive from the Gulf, where offshore fabrication and maintenance release 625 regularly.

Which customs code does Inconel 625 scrap travel under?

Because nickel is its main element, 625 scrap normally goes under heading 7503.00, the nickel waste and scrap line. India and most other countries add more digits after that heading, so ask your broker for the exact eight- or ten-digit line before the shipping bill is filed.

Can you export Inconel 625 scrap from India to the UAE or South Korea?

Yes. Mipra Steel exports described 625 lots and has offices in Dubai and South Korea. Tell us the quantity, form, destination port and timing, and we will respond with relevant next steps.

What is Inconel 625 made of?

Nominally 61.9% nickel, 21.5% chromium, 9% molybdenum, 4% iron, 3.6% niobium. Specification ranges vary by product form and standard.
